Dangerous precedent...
Over the weekend, Amazon “recalled” e-book copies of 1984 (irony) because they were sold by an invalid vendor. The content was removed from e-books without notifying customers, because apparantly they have the legal right to access and remove the downloaded content on their e-book readers. Scary. Is this what a book-burning will look like in the 21st century? Millions of copies of a text deleted without a word of notice? The unprecedented control of information (both private and what ought to be public) by corporations freaks me out… obviously very dangerous things can be done if this power is placed in the wrong hands. (That may be an optimistic if.)
